Gqeberha, South Africa, 10 March 2023 - On Thursday evening, 9 March 2023, the Coega Development Corporation (CDC) snatched the Premier’s Special Recognition Award and the Premier’s Discretionary Award for the 2021/2022 Clean Audit at the Batho Pele Service Excellence and Innovations Awards in Hemingways Casino, East London.

With reference to the Premier’s Special Recognition Awards, Coega was recognised for the contribution and impact of work in communities; and with regards to the Premier’s Discretionary Award, the organisation was recognised for achieving a “clean audit” from the Auditor-General of South Africa (AGSA). Speaking on behalf of the organisation, Mokgaetši Sebothoma, Executive Manager Corporate Services said that Coega appreciates the concerted effort by the Ministry for the Public Service and Administration (MPSA) to ensure a strong and capable state.

CDC Executive Manager for Corporate Services, Ms Mokgaetši, received two accolades on behalf of the organisation.

Mokgaetši highlighted that “The Premier’s Discretionary Award 2021/2022 Clean Audit Award is crucial to Coega because it represents the corporation’s licence to operate. As a public entity good governance reigns supreme in our business operations and engagements with key stakeholders.”

The Batho Pele Excellence Awards (BPEA) recognise the values of improving service delivery. The event was coordinated by the Offices of the Premiers and represents a concerted effort by the MPSA to intensify the creation of a strong and capable state, which aligns to Coega’s workplace culture of innovation and continuous improvement.

The objective of the awards is to motivate the 1.2 million public servants, who daily dedicate themselves to selflessly serve the people of South Africa. The awards promote sharing of best practices, learning, rewarding good performance and gauging citizens’ satisfaction towards government performance. The awards are a serious and committed move by the MPSA towards transforming and professionalising the public service, improving service delivery, as well as putting into operation the ideas towards building a capable state, as enunciated in the National Development Plan (NDP).

Furthermore, “Coega’s non-SEZ Services (infrastructure programmes) exist to strengthen the capacity and capability of the State because we understand the importance of collaboration and partnership. At Coega, we also appreciate the recognition received from our public sector partners and authority, in the space of investment attraction, service excellence, and infrastructure development. This recognition drives us to continue with our trajectory of pushing the boundaries as a state-owned entity in terms of impact, innovation and championing the socio-economic development.” concludes Mokgaetši.
