Gqeberha, South Africa, 02 December 2022 - This week, the Coega Development Corporation (CDC) welcomed the Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Manicaland Province, Zimbabwe, Honourable Nokuthula Matsikenyere, to the Coega Special Economic Zone (SEZ). Manicaland is a Province in Eastern Zimbabwe bordering with the Republic of Mozambique.

The visit forms part of the relationship-building strategy that aims to position Coega as a key partner in the provision of integrated logistics platforms, SEZs and industrial park solutions in Africa, in support of the Africa Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).

The visit by Honourable Nokuthula Matsikenyere follows from an engagement between Coega and the Manicaland Province prior to the onset of the Covid-19 Pandemic, whereby a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) was signed to partner for the development of specified projects.

“We are encouraged to see African countries collaborate and leverage each other’s capabilities for the development of the continent, SADC in particular. Post the Covid-19 Pandemic delays, it is good that we are back to having these conversations for the benefit of shared development,” said CDC CEO, Mr. Khwezi Tiya. “The city of Mutare, on the border between Zimbabwe and Mozambique, is well positioned to be part of a development corridor which could run from the Port of Beira to provide a lifeline to Zimbabwe and other SADC landlocked countries,” continued CEO Tiya.

“In Zimbabwe, we want action, and we believe that when it relates to this partnership, we have made the right choice, at the right time, and Coega is the right place,” shared Provincial Minister, Honourable Matsikenyere.

The agenda for the visit began with a tour of the 9003ha Coega SEZ to gain better insight and understanding of the area, and how the various zones in the SEZ are clustered to maximise industrial synergies.
