Business Process Outsourcing and Off Shoring

The Coega Industrial Development Zone has been identified as a prime location for Business Process Outsourcing in South Africa – serving South Africa, Africa, Europe and the rest of the English-speaking world.

The Coega Contact Centre is already fully operational with 120 seats (scalable to 1 000) – presently occupied by ABSA Bank.

The Centre can be expanded in phases, increasing to 300, 700 and 1 500 seats. Once complete, the centre will cover over 16 600sqm, and will include facilities such as offices, training and boardrooms, a cafeteria and restaurant.

In addition, call centres located in the zone have the advantage of a shorter time differential between themselves and a great number of other countries. This is due to South Africa falling within Greenwich Meridian Time (+ 2) which is within an hour or two (depending on daylight saving time) of most of the United Kingdom and Europe.

The power and telecommunications infrastructure serving the Coega IDZ is robust, with fail-safe services available. Further, deregulation of the South African telecommunications sector is creating further opportunities for investors.

Key competitive advantages at a glance.

  • The Eastern Cape provides a large pool of skilled labour
  • The Coega skills database lists over 400 individuals with telephony skills.
  • Nelson Mandela Bay is home to more than 28 000 English-speaking students.
  • English is spoken in a neutral accent acceptable to the British.
  • Afrikaans, which has close links with Dutch, German and Flemish, is widely spoken.
  • Residential and training facilities in the Coega IDZ cater for call centre operators from around the country.
  • Local operators can be fully trained and operational within six weeks.
  • Call centres in NMB have one of the lowest staff turnover rates in South Africa.
  • Call centres in the Eastern Cape province of South Africa are recognized as being some of the most productive in Africa.
  • Strong ICT faculties in the local universities provide operators for help lines.
